The rate is $15 for up to eight hours, said borough manager Ken Work. “That is on the low end of field use fees in the county," he said.
"The borough spends between $12,000 and $15,000 a year on upkeep at Memorial Park," the borough manager said. "We expect the fees for field use will bring in between $4,000 and $5,000. That will help offset maintenance costs."
Until 2018, teams have been able to use the fields at no charge.
The borough continues to charge users for the lights on the two fields. "People mark down how long they've used the lights. If two teams use the lights on one field on one night, we encourage them to get together and share the cost," Work said.
Quarryville will also charge for use of the new pavilion at Memorial Park. Last summer, members of the borough crew built the pavilion across Katie Ln. from the fair association's Hoffman Building. The owners of Hess's Barbecue paid for the materials and the company uses the pavilion during the annual Solanco Fair.
The borough has built picnic benches for the pavilion and will run a water line to it. Once the line is in place, the pavilion will rent for $50 a day.
The new fees have not slowed interest in using the fields. "We've had a steady stream of phone calls," Work said. "Huffnagle's filling up and the playing fields are being booked."
