Community Fire Company of Rising Sun Chief Matt Blakeley set the scene. He said that fire company members were wrapping up company training when they were alerted for the call. Two fire company members and Rising Sun police officer Adam Dominick extinguished a fire in the SUV. The focus then shifted to extricating Church from the vehicle. "It was the magnitude of things at once - the car was on fire, there was entrapment, and we were concerned for civilians because it was in the center of town," said Blakeley.
The Pearl Street building, which was at one time Rising Sun's Post Office, and currently serves as a discount store for Sun Pharmacy, was condemned by Rising Sun town administrator Calvin Bonenberger. A portion of Pearl Street, in the area of Center Square, remained closed Tuesday morning.
