Cassie Kronner certainly knows how to make an entrance into a new community. She exits.
Cassie, a 20-month-old rescued cat owned by Jack and Barbara Kronner of Charlestown, disappeared on February 19. The cat got out when her owner's were moving into their new home.
For six weeks, the daily search continued.
On April 5, Cassie reappeared.
Jack's dogs alerted him that the cat had returned. "The dogs were sniffing around. I saw her head pop out next to the grill," Jack said.
It was a different cat that returned. Jack speculates that Cassie may have been trapped somewhere while she was missing. She lost more than 50 percent of her body weight, going from 9.2 pounds to 4.5 pounds. The couple took her to the vet for a check up and treatment for dehydration. She was determined not to have sustained any injuries.
Even before the most recent incident, Cassie has already led an interesting life for a cat who is less than two years old. She was rescued by Jack in Baltimore when she was just a few weeks old. He was working a food truck and found Cassie and her siblings. "She was very sick. We captured all of the cats. We were able to save four of her siblings. We adopted her and she was chipped. This cat has a unique story," Kronner said.
The Kronners are thrilled both with their new home and the return of their beloved cat.
"My birthday is soon. This (return of the cat) is a great birthday present," he added.
