While the public may turn out for the demolition derby and the midway rides and games at the Cecil County Fair, for April Barczewski, it's all about the kids.
Barczewski, Extension Educator for Cecil County's 4-H Youth Development, said that in her mind, the fair is still the time that the spotlight shines on Cecil's 4-H members. "There are three sections of the fair - the midway, the demo derby/rodeo (and other entertainment) and then the AG," said Barczewski. "This is my 18th fair. We've got new buildings and two new barns and other upgrades. When I came (to Cecil) the Stafford Pavilion was not there. The fair has invested in the 4-H kids by upgrading," she said. "I'm now seeing second generation kids. I've also seen kids start in 4-H at age five and now they've aged out."
