The perfect Christmas gift for you or your loved one is coming to the auction block this weekend.
The annual auction, to benefit Cecil County 4-H, is set for Saturday, December 5 at the Walls Activity Center at Fair Hill. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. The live auction begins at 7:00 p.m. The silent auction ends at 8:30 p.m. Food and drink will be available for purchase. There is no admission fee.
According to Vicki Stone, a 4-H associate with Maryland Extension, the 4-H Clubs work to get donations. After an item is sold, half of the proceeds go directly to the club and the other half goes to the 4-H office. Funds then pay for club members to attend national trips and classes in horticulture, shotgun, dairy judging, and more. "These are national trips that they earn by being successful when competing on the local and state levels," said Stone.
Specific hot ticket auction items include signed memorabilia from Michael Phelps, Tiger Woods, and Eli Manning. There is a Mazda team racing suit, an ice skating pack to University of Delaware arena, a Kawasaki power tool set, and more. Local entertainer Jack Foreaker is donating a puppet show performance. There is also agriculture and equestrian items, and lots of creative theme baskets.
Before the auction on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m., the Holiday Crafts Workshop will also be held at the Walls Activity Hall in Fair Hill. This event is open to 4-H members, their families, and the public. There will be crafts for all ages. Cost is $7 for youth crafts and $12 for adult crafts. Bring a bag lunch or purchase a hot lunch and drinks.
Those who turn out early, can have breakfast with Santa from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. There will be photo opportunities.
