Those who live in Charlestown are getting the opportunity to voice their opinion on the town's new project.
In July, the town paid $395,000 for the 5.2 acre parcel formerly known as the Avalon Yacht Basin Marina. The land includes buildings - a former store, a shop, and bathrooms.
People can submit their ideas for what they'd like to see done with the property.
"We did receive a grant for $90,000," said Capano. Those funds will pay for landscaping and an area for open air concerts on the parcel. That portion of the project will likely begin next spring. But there is more land and suggestions have been offered. Capano, who has long rallied for a kayak launch in the town, went through the forms last week.
Some of the suggestions include: boat ramp, private beach, kayak rental area, recreation center for use by the seniors group, flea market, farmer's market, seafood market, dog park, reestablish River Fest and use the parcel as the venue, new town pier, marina, snow cone stand, concession stand, picnic area, walking trail, rain garden, environmental education center, boat slips, swimming area, campground, promenade, and more.
Capano said all input is welcome. "People can be anonymous. And we will be taking suggestions for another month of so," she said. "Everything is on the table. I am glad to hear all the suggestions. We are trying to get more grants."
A committee will be established to implement a plan for this property.
