Where's the beach?
It's still here but is slightly smaller.
Erosion has taken its toll on the Charlestown beach areas, town administrator Wib Pumpaly said last week. "We're working on it," he said.
So town officials then decided to obtain rip rap from the Hatem Bridge project in hopes of using that to secure the shore. "That didn't work out," said Pumpaly.
So now town officials are looking at other ways to prevent losing additional beach space, particularly at Long Point and Foot Log parks.
In other business from Charlestown:
The town has now leased its town-owned waterfront home to a family from overseas. The property, on Water Street, which at one point served as the Charlestown Boys & Girls Club, has been renovated and is now leased. The Town received the home when it was willed to Charlestown by a now deceased resident. The stipulation was that the bequest resulted in "the enjoyment of the citizens of Charlestown." After the expenses from the renovation are recouped, the rent revenue will be used for activities in the town. In the past, those funds paid for children's activities.
