It's been a rough few years for Chesapeake City VFW Post 7687.
Back in 2013, the bar at the post shut down because the post was behind in payment of state taxes.
The post spent three years prior to that struggling to replace aging equipment and funding major building repairs.
They are back in the black now and are planning more events as they work to get slot machines in the post again, hopefully, by this summer.
"There was a period where we lost slot machines and we're working to get those back. The post will make no profit from them. All proceeds will go back into the community," said Roland. The goal will be to help churches, schools, scout troops, and other no profits in Chesapeake City and Cecilton. There will also be a renewed effort at providing services to veterans.
Each day of the week has brought a new theme, new food, and in some cases, entertainment. The second Sunday of each month, the post auxiliary hosts an all you can eat breakfast from 8-11 a.m. Cost is $8. Menu items include pancakes, waffles, gravies, eggs, potatoes, and more.
The post hosts Bingo open to the public every Monday at 6:30 p.m. On Tuesday, there is Bar Bingo. Wednesday is Wing Night and more from 7-10 p.m. There are various activities on Thursdays including an upcoming paint night benefit for Bo Manor. On Friday nights, the weeks alternate between country line dancing, a karaoke Dj and dinners. Homemade dinners which may include items such as shrimp, ribs, desserts and sides are served for reasonable prices. Saturday nights, there is an occasional live band, some with a small cover charge.
The post also has hall rentals.
VFW Post 7687 is open Monday through Friday from 2-10 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from noon until 10 p.m. Closing time is flexible.
