The students at Conowingo Elementary School have pledged to be drug free. Along the way they've also worked to help pets in need.
As part of Red Ribbon Week, which started October 23 and continues this week, the Conowingo students are doing all kinds of events and activities to show their commitment to making good choices as well as helping pets in need.
They have also had spirit days which show their commitment to living a drug free lifestyle.
On October 24, students wore mismatched socks. On October 25, they made posters reflecting the message "Paws-itively Drug Free." On October 28, students wore the school colors of blue and white. This week, they will make bone-shaped book marks and will also wear mismatched clothing.
Students also signed a pledge which states that "Drug Free is the Way to Be". The pledge reads "I promise to keep my body healthy, treat it well and keep it drug-free. I will only take drugs (medicines) when necessary, and only when given to me by a parent, guardian, or doctor."
Conowingo guidance counselor Dawn Reed coordinated Red Ribbon Week activities. She said that students like being recognized for doing positive things. She is also spending time in each classroom showing movies and teaching children how to say no to drugs, alcohol, and peer pressure.
