It will be all hands on deck for the members of the Conowingo Lions Club as they host a pair of events on Saturday, May 9.
The first event, the Lions Club 5K to promote Diabetes awareness, will be held at Conowingo Park, one mile south of the dam.
"Diabetes is one of the Lions Club initiatives," explained Coale.
To register for the 5K online visit Active.com. Cost is $30 per person and gifts include a t-shirt, goodie bag, and more.
The walk begins at 8 a.m. Registration on site begins at 7 a.m. but pre-registration is encouraged. The walk/run is timed and there will be medals determined by age group and for overall winners.
The second event, the first ever Conowingo Outdoors Event, is designed to showcase the recreational opportunities in the area.
It will also be held at Conowingo Park, from noon until 4 p.m. It's a free, fun event for the whole family. There will be vendors providing information about hunting, fishing, kayaking, hiking, biking, sports, boating, and more.
Officials from Cecil Parks and Recreation will share information about upcoming programs. Northern Chesapeake Sportsmen will share information about the programs for children, the NRA, Coast Guard Auxiliary, and vendors from hunting and fishing organizations will be in attendance. No weapons are permitted.
"Every other town or community has a festival or event. We thought it was a good idea that Conowingo have an event. Conowingo is known for hunting, fishing, and boating," said Coale.
"We wanted to highlight the healthy fitness activities in this area," said Lion Madeline Brown. Ravens Roost #119 and Conowingo Elementary's Fuel Up and Play 60 members are assisting with the outdoors event. Food will be available for purchase.
Coale said the Lions hope both these events will be a success and will be held annually.
There will also be a chance to join the Conowingo Lions is you wish to do so.
