If one of your New Year's resolutions is to be a better parent, Conowingo Elementary School can help.
Now, in addition to educating children, the school is also training parents.
Both the parent sessions include free breakfast.
Conowingo guidance counselor Dawn Reed explained why she brought the program to the school. "We saw it and thought it was really neat," said Reed, who started offering the classes last fall.
The half hour sessions have parents and children attending together. They watch video clips and do exercises such as "Proud of You moment". Reed said she wants more people to attend the classes.
"This equips parents with parenting tools and provides them with an understanding of how the child sees things," said Reed. Parents also receive tips on helping with homework. Sessions include everything from teaching manners to learning acceptance. There is a raffle drawing where everyone who attends can win prizes during each session.
"It offers them a chance to connect with their kids. We are so busy in our lives now. This gives us a half hour of one on one with the kids. They see that they are an important part of our lives," said Reed.
Other area elementary schools are also offering the iMOM and All Pro Dad meetings including North East, Bainbridge, Bay View, and Gilpin Manor elementary schools. If interested, check with your school to see if they have the classes.
