The police are about to get wet for Elkton's kids.
This year's National Night Out against Crime is set for Tuesday, August 1 from 5-8 p.m. in Meadow Park, off Delaware Avenue. As part of the event, there will be Dunk an Officer.
"National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live," said Captain Joseph Zurolo, executive officer for the Elkton Police Department. "National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances."
There will be free food and drink, basketball, Nintendo, volleyball, kickball, cornhole, and music.
North East police chief Darrell Hamilton said that town's National Night Out event is "unparalleled". It will also be held on August 1 from 5-8 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club on East Cecil Avenue. North East police officers will provide free fingerprinting. North East Fire Company will be on scene with apparatus and free gifts. At 6 p.m. there will be a Cecil Sheriff's Office K-9 demonstration. There will be games and activities. Studio 13 stylists will provide free haircuts. Local businesses are donating hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, and pizza. There will be free Rita's water ice. There will be a bounce house and a Cecil County Heath Department services booth. Maryland State Police will also attend.
"This is an outstanding event attended by many," said Chief Hamilton.
In Perryville, there will be a National Night Out celebration. It will be held on Tuesday, August 1 from 5-7 p.m. at the Perryville Fire Company, Route 7 (Principio Furnace Road).
