Mark Hyman can see his future.
All he has to do is look across Route 40.
Hyman, owner of Ramsey Ford's Rising Sun and Elkton car dealerships, has received approval for a new dealership on westbound Route 40, Elkton.
"We’re moving. Dirt is moving," said Hyman.
The initial plans approved by the Town of Elkton include a 24,602 square foot building. Hyman is planning to ask for additional approvals.
He now hopes to expand that plan to add a Quicklane Lube no appointment necessary lube, oil, filter, brakes, batteries, and tires service center.
He said he wants to add the quick service area because
some people like the "dealership" service option, where they make an appointment. Some want a faster experience. The new dealership will double the service bays to 16.
He has been in business in the county since 2000 in Rising Sun. He took over the Elkton location in 2008. "We're ready to grow. We owe it to the community. We will have state of the art technology in the new dealership. I am nervous and excited," said Hyman.
The expanded space will allow Ramsey to offer four times as many new, used, and certified pre-owned vehicles for sale. Hyman will also hire more people. He said the staff will increase by 40 percent.
The new location will also allow Hyman to expand his business. He is part of the Ford Business Preferred Network which allows him to sell bigger trucks, up to and including the 650 and 750 models. Ramsey also has a partnership with Roush Racing and will sell three models of electric cars. There will be charging stations at the new dealership. "I sold hybrids. But this is the new technology. This is huge," said Hyman.
The new dealership is expected to open in the fourth quarter of 2015. "I'd like to be open by Christmas," said Hyman.
His move across Route 40 will mean that there will be three vehicle dealers within a mile stretch of road. "This is not unlike Cleveland Avenue (in Delaware). The mission is to make this a destination," Hyman added. "A lot of good things are happening to make this a nicer corridor."
