For months, Michelle Henson has been working on plans to upgrade Elkton's Downtown Farm Market.
Henson, Administration Office Secretary for the Town of Elkton, visited other similar farm markets and met with vendors in an effort to create a more farm to table feel in Elkton.
Vendors Martha and Norman will continue to anchor the market with meats and other fresh items. Other vendors will bring scones and baked goods. Fielder's Choice will bring jams, jellies and relishes.
All the vendors won't be the same on each of the three days.
The market will be open Thursday and Fridays from 2-6 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. until noon. There will be eight spaces in the pavilion and additional space in a tent.
"We want to make the market a community center. All the markets I went to had the feeling of being a community center. We want to make this a place where people stand around and chat. And provide products that are as fresh as
can be," said Henson.
"If it fails it won't be for lack of trying," said Henson. Work is underway to make the area more aesthetically pleasing.
With three half days to fill, Henson said there are plenty of options. For example three different honey vendors could set up shop at the locations. Anyone interested in filling a vendor slot is asked to call 410-398-0970 ext. 142. "We're not trying to compete with other markets. We're trying to provide vendors with another venue," added Henson.
