Alison Ferver and her cow, Lynsey, were the big winners last Wednesday morning.
Ferver, 16, from Will-o-mar Farm in Earleville, earned the first place ribbon in the Seniors Fitting and Showing event.
It involves a great deal of work, says Ferver, who has been involved with showing cows for four years.
"We start preparing in January," Ferver said. "We work about an hour a day walking the cow around."
Ferver attends several other shows during the course of a year including the Maryland State Fair.
She was also actively involved in another big fair event,
The Running With the Pigs, a 5K race/walk designed to raise money for the fight against breast cancer.
The event itself generated $6,000 and t-shirts were sold at the fair.
Ferver's mother, Virginia, is a cancer survivor. Walks with her daughter inspired Alison to hold the 5K.
