Discover Your Chesapeake in downtown Port Deposit.
An event geared to those who are seasoned geocachers or new to the pastime, can now see the Susquehanna in a whole new way - Geocache style.
Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS enabled devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache container at the location.
Renee Williams, administrative assistant for the Town of Port Deposit, said she's excited that the town was chosen. A new cachers event will be held on June 6 from 6-8 p.m. at the gas house. On June 9, the kick off for the geocache location will begin. There will be a notebook where visitors can chronicle their visit. There will also be a small giveaway courtesy of the town.
Tome Gas House, circa 1850, serves as both an education center and a visitors center. The building features education from Towson University regarding the Northern Map turtle and town mascot Rhonda.
A Towson representative shows off the turtle habitat. There are other displays at the facility as well.
The Tome Gas House is open 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, rain or shine.
