Someone is going to get a new house in Charlestown.
Just who it is is not yet known.
Last week, officials from Habitat for Humanity Susquehanna announced plans to demolish an existing structure and then build a new home in Charlestown Place.
Officials from Habitat for Humanity are currently working with the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development. The group is also looking for funding for this project.
Charlestown's Board pledged to support the project last week. They will not provide financial backing. Approval of the project and demolition permits are expected to be issued in early September.
Candidates are being sought for Habitat's home ownership program. There are specific guidelines that must be met including residency in Cecil or Harford counties for at least one year, need for a habitat home, and willingness to partner with Habitat.
Those who may be interested are asked to call 410-638-4434 ext. 1 or on the web at www.habitatsusq.org.
Volunteers will be needed to assist with the work once the project gets underway.
A fundraiser has also been set for Friday, October 25. The Build a House BBQ and Great Pumpkin contest will be held at The Wellwood, Water Street, Charlestown, at 6 p.m. Tickets for this event cost $50 each. For more information about obtaining tickets call 410-398-3399 or email@example.com.
