They may support different NFL teams, but they are huddling up for God.
Men from Janes United Methodist Church have partnered with those from other churches and are presenting a Training Camp for Christian men.
Rob Jugler from New Beginnings Christian Fellowship in North East, Hal Jones and others from Great Emmanuel Temple in Kennett Square, Pa. and Dave Roberts and members of Mountain Christian Church in Harford County have also signed on as partners.
Three speakers have been tapped. They are:
• Rod Hairston who is chaplain for the Baltimore Ravens, a teaching pastor and life coach, and founder of the Messiah Community Church in Owings Mills.
• Darrell Andrews who is "America's Passion Coach" and who is a certified speaking professional from Bear, Delaware.
• Brett Rush, worship leader and pastor at Shiloh Tabernacle in Quarryville, Pennsylvania.
Reverend Drew Christian has been the pastor at Janes UMC for just over a month. He said the planning for the Training Camp was well underway before he came to Rising Sun.
"This is wonderful. I love sports. I understand that one of the main things missing from churches is a vibrant men's ministry. This will give men (the tools) to take a leading role in the community, the church, and the family," said Reverend Christian.
Training Camp will be held at Janes UMC, Walnut Street, Rising Sun on September 14 from 8 a.m. until noon. Registration deadline is Friday, September 6. The program is open to men ages 13 and older and is limited to the first 300 to register. There is no fee. A love offering will be taken in an effort to offset event expenses. To register call 410-658-0765 or online at TrainingCampMD@gmail.com
If this event is successful, there is a hope that it will become an annual event, possibly being held at rotating locations.
