When you're born with the last name Schneckenburger, the road to politics isn't an easy one.
Just finding a sign to accommodate your 15-letter last name can be a challenge.
"Just call me Dan," said Schneckenburger, councilman elect for Cecil's County Council District 3.
"They can't say it and they can't spell it. People try to put an "L" in there. Don't hesitate. Just say it - Schneckenburger," he said, demonstrating the technique and pronunciation. He also said his surname made ordering campaign signs a struggle. He opted to have "Dan" in large letters and his last name in a small font.
Schneckenburger's fellow elected officials will get used to his name. He and others will officially take office on December 1 at noon.
The inauguration will be held on Monday, December 1 at noon at the Upper Chesapeake Ballroom of the North East Fire Company.
The inauguration is the formal swearing in by Derrick Lowe, Clerk of the Court, of the elected officials in Cecil County.
Officials to be sworn in include County Council members Joyce Bowlsbey, Schneckenburger, and George Patchell; Sheriff Scott Adams, Orphan's Court Judges Sally Saunders Camp, Carolyn Crouch, and Pete Pritchard; and Register of Wills Michael W. Dawson.
Music will be provided by the Rising Sun High Chamber Choir and North East High School Ensemble. County Executive Tari Moore will be the master of ceremonies. Remarks will be delivered by Council President Robert Hodge.
The inauguration is open to the public but seating may be limited.
The new council will get to work the following day at the December 2 council work session which begins at 9 a.m.
