That's all you need to take a advantage of Learn4Life, a new program offered by the Cecil County Public Library.
Learn4Life is a free six-week online course.
"Part of our mission is to have educational opportunities for everyone in the county," said Frazier Walker, the library's Community Relations Specialist. "Learn4Life is something our patrons can explore for free."
"We feel very strongly about presenting learning opportunities to our adults and teenagers," said Walker. "They have the chance to explore areas they would like to learn about before paying tuition at a college. It's a chance for self-improvement or to explore a new hobby."
Information on Learn4Life will be included under the "Digital Library" tab on the bar across of the library's homepage. Once you choose a course you will be led through the registration process.
"We will offer tons of courses from office software, accounting, law, teaching ESL, and graphic design as well as healthy lifestyles and even digital photography and web design," said Walker.
There are more than 100 different courses in 12 categories: Accounting and Finance, Business, College Readiness, Computer Applications, Design and Composition, Healthcare and Medical, Language and Arts, Law and Legal, Personal Development, Teaching and Education, Technology, Writing and Publishing.
The courses are not for credits but people who complete a course will get a certificate of completion and is something that could bolster a resumé.
Lessons are released twice a week so that students will not be able to work ahead but will be able to catch up on something they might have missed.
There is an interactive board for questions or discussions with others taking the same course.
Walker said the Learn4Life courses are similar to a distance learning class offered by a college. "It's a quality learning experience," she said.
There is another ancillary benefit, Walker said.
"Learn4Life blends with the new strategic plan the county references in its draft," she said. "One of their goals is to provide learning opportunities as a way to help students prepare for college at no cost. It helps them get ready for Cecil College or any college that choose to attend."
