A duck is about to make a special delivery at the North East Post Office.
No postage required.
For more than two weeks, a mallard has been nesting at the post office. Staff there, who asked not to be identified, said that for days the duck scoped out the area looking for a place to nest.
"It's kind of nice," said a post office employee.
The noise of the mail carts and the roar of delivery trucks doesn't seem to faze the mallard who is sitting on a dozen eggs.
The employees have worked to help the expectant mother. They give her water and have brought corn and bird seed for feeding time.
"We make sure she's got a fresh bowl of water. We don't want anybody to bother her. But it's noisy here and that doesn't bother her," said the staffers.
"We haven't named her and we're not keeping her as a pet. She is staying close to that nest but is right here where the action is," added a staffer.
