Some of the food served up at the local Dairy Night is about to get national exposure.
Dairy Night, sponsored annually by the Calvert Grange, was held recently. During that event, which is a covered dish dinner, cooks were encouraged to bring their best dishes and recipes. National Grange magazine offered up the recipe contest. The best dishes selected at the event will be featured in an upcoming issue of the National Grange magazine.
The Meulenberg brothers provided musical entertainment. There were also numerous door prizes given away. Anyone who currently farms was given a free bag of calf starter. Kilby Cream provided milk and ice cream. Dairy princesses and maids from Pennsylvania and Harford County also attended the event.
Meanwhile, outside on the lawn of Calvert Grange, children of the farmers played kick the can, cornhole, and other games. They didn't have an actual can, so they substituted a Turkey Hill tea bottle filled with rocks.
Calvert Grange is available online at calvertgrange.com. The grange also has a Facebook page.
