The time couldn't be better for a new Boys and Girls Club unit to come to Cecil County.
Most of the current clubs are outgrowing their space.
In 2013, attendance at the clubs grew. By the end of this month, there will be a new club to serve children and youths. The club at New East Crossing, on the north side of Route 40 in North East, will open. The club expects to serve a new portion of the population, children from the Lakeside and Timberbrook communities.
The search is on for staff for that unit. It will open at the end of the month at the community room in the New East community room.
"We're going from four clubs to five. We will serve another part of the community that needs us," said Anders.
The clubs currently serve North East, Elkton, Rising Sun, and Charlestown. Children ages 6-18 pay $35 per year to join the club which runs during the school year. There is an additional cost for summer programs.
A goal this year is to help the Rising Sun unit grow. They plan to work on promoting membership in that area.
