Loretta Zazo is taking a stand.
Her new business won't sell anything that isn't made in the U.S.A.
Zazo, of Havre de Grace, is the owner of Git Lit Scents, a new business in store 41 at the Perryville Outlet Center.
"This (business) was a drinking coffee moment. I (was deciding) if I wanted to stay in retail and work weekends and seven days. Or if I wanted a 9-5," Zazo said.
One of her friends already sells Mia Bella candles, the Git Lit's focal product. The fact that the candles are manufactured in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. was a selling point. She researched more and found that the candles are made from palm wax, a renewable resource, and that palm wax is a natural product.
The candles come in nine, 16, and 26 sizes. She also sells melts.
The candles sparked the store and then Zazo decided to add even more Made in the U.S.A. products. The latter - crocheted scarves, hats, and made-to-order items are created by Zazo. "I learned to crochet in high school," she said.
" (Owning a business) was never a dream before. I never knew what I wanted to be when I grew up. But this ignited a spark. I'm good at dealing with people," she said. "And what better to promote than products made in the U.S.A."
Zazo is also working to attract other businesses to the outlet center. She will have a vendor table inside her store where dealers will rotate to share their Made in the U.S.A. products with customers. She hopes that will bring in more permanent businesses to the center.
"I believe in Perryville Outlet Center. I will do everything I can to help the businesses," she said.
She has organized and anchored several outlet center events in the past. Her "Pampering in Perryville" vendor event for women, which has been held twice and will be held again in the spring, has drawn 350 people to the center. She has big plans for organizing other center events in the future.
"I wanted to get in here and get started. Once the weather breaks, it will get good," she said. "I have lots of ideas and my calendar is filling. If we all work together, good things will happen."
