Doris Behnke is ready to train a whole new crop of Master Gardeners.
Behnke, a staffer for Maryland Extension and the coordinator of Cecil's Master Gardener program, will kick off the program at the end of January.
The mission of the program is to educate residents about safe, effective, and sustainable horticultural practices that build healthy gardens, landscapes, and communities.
The cost of the Cecil County Master Gardener program is $200. The training will be held Monday evenings from 6-9 p.m. from January 26 through April 27. There will be no training on President's Day. The training will cover topics such as composting, pruning, vegetables, soils, botany, and much more. The classes will be held at the Cecil County Administration Building, Chesapeake Boulevard, Elkton.

• The 2015 Cecil County Agronomy Day is set for January 21 at the Calvert Grange Hall, Telegraph Road, near Calvert.
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and the program starts at 9 a.m. Those who need nutrient management credits, private pesticide credits, nutrient applicator card recertification or first time nutrient applicator training, should plan to attend.
