After weeks of working solo, Floyd Taylor is about to get some help.
Town officials in Port Deposit have hired Walter Krause of North East to fill the vacancy in the town's maintenance department. Town administrator Vicky Rinkerman said that Krause brings a wealth of experience to the position.
In other business from Port Deposit:
• The Mayor and Council of the Town of Port Deposit have announced that applications are now being accepted for the Facade Improvement Program.
Grants are available to property owners through the Program to help facilitate exterior improvements that town officials envision will help enhance the community by improving the historic integrity of the buildings and creating curb appeal to increase marketability of residential and commercial properties in the historic district.
Applications and program guidelines are available on the town website www.portdeposit.org, at town hall, 64 South Main Street, or you may receive them via email by calling 410-378-2121 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Facade Improvement Program will be administered through the town in cooperation with the Town's Historic Area Commission. People have already been picking up applications for the program.
• After the installation of the new comfort station in Marina Park, work is continuing to get the facility ready for use. The comfort station should be open for use by the end of April.
• There has been an update on the Rock Run bridge replacement. The bridge on Route 222 over Rock Run, is expected to be under construction this summer. The notice to proceed will be issued June 6. The bridge is expected to be open to traffic in late August. A storm drain project in that area is also planned. Bid opening for that project is June 30. Notice to proceed is September 5. The bridge project will be completed prior to the storm drain work.
