Tammy Little was grateful for a little Christmas break on Saturday morning.
Little, who is raising three of her granddaughters, ages 10, 9, and 5 was back for a second year at the annual Ravens Roost #119 breakfast, held Saturday morning at American Legion Post 194, Rising Sun.
This fifth annual event has deserving children and their families from Rising Sun, Calvert, and Conowingo elementary schools turning out for fun.
And gifts. The Roost members each provide gifts for a child. which are passed out by Santa.
Roost president Terry Craig said the breakfast is the Roost members favorite activity of the year. They all get to be involved and help.
"We really look forward to this. It's our favorite event of the year," said Roost member Vince Yale.
Rhonda Jacques is a new Roost member. She was helping at her first breakfast. "I think this is great. I like what the Roost does. It's great that they help kids and I like that they help kids in our community. A lot of kids benefit from this," said Jacques.
Local students Joseph, Jae, and Josh Jones, grandsons of Roost members David and Elaine Ore, volunteered at the event. The trio passed out drinks and helped with arts and crafts. Josh Jones said his plans for the day had included sleeping in but he decided to help instead.
A handful of people heard of the invite-only event, and dropped in. Ravens Roost members accommodated them, rushing to the store to buy gifts for the drop-ins. In all, the roost served 63 children and their families.
