While Sunfest focuses on Rising Sun and its business community, a similar event a few weeks earlier will celebrate hope, recovery, and prevention of drug abuse.
The events for the day include opening exercises at 3 p.m. Rising Sun Martial Arts will do a demonstration beginning at 3:15 p.m. There will be recovery speakers at 3:30 p.m., 4:15 p.m., and 5:15 p.m. There will be live musical entertainment by Nate Hodge and Pilisa Mackey starting at 3:45 p.m. Line dancing with Shirley Mackey begins at 4:30 p.m. Cecil's Got Talent begins at 4:45 p.m. Pie eating contests, for both adults and children begin at 5:30 p.m. Tribute artists for Elvis, Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, and Garth Brooks take the stage at 6 p.m. There will also be free Narcan administration training, vendors, crafters, and food for sale. There will be door prizes, raffles, a 50/50, hourly puppet shoes, and prizes for the talent contest and pie eating. Silent bids will be held to put a pie in the face of Police Chief Chip Peterson.
"This is all about support and all about the community," said Foster. "This is a celebration of recovery and people coming together."
