The Rising Sun Arts Council is holding "Gingerbread House Mania" Saturday, December 12 from 5-7 p.m. at town hall.
Gingerbread House Mania is a gingerbread house decorating contest for all ages.
Participants should construct and decorate their gingerbread house out of edible materials and are permitted to choose the size, materials, and construction method. The use of cardboard for base and support is allowed.
Entrants should bring their gingerbread house to the third floor of town hall between 2-4 p.m. on December 12.
Participants are invited to bring family and friends to vote for their house. Voting will take place between 5-6:30 p.m. Registration costs $3 per entry if paid in advance (by December 9) and $5 at the door and can be paid by cash or check made out to the Town of Rising Sun.
The registration form should include the entrant's name and age and be mailed to RSAC Gingerbread House Mania, 1 East Main Street, Rising Sun, MD 21911. If you have questions, email firstname.lastname@example.org
Prizes will be awarded. Goodie bags will be presented to all entrants age 12 and under.
Refreshments will be served.
"It will give kids a chance to be creative and will challenge them to design a gingerbread house," Warnick said. "It will help them become interested in the arts, and provides an avenue to show what they can do."
During the event, non-perishable food items will be collected for donation to Ray of Hope.
Warnick lauded the work of the Arts Council, which also holds Second Saturday events.
"Like the Historic Preservation Commission, the Arts Council is self-sustaining," he said.
"The Arts Council and events like this enhance the desirability of living in the town," he added
