Things are about to get scary in Rising Sun.
On Saturday, October 26 beginning at 4 p.m., the Town is hosing a Spooktacular Halloween community gathering. The event will be held in the area of Center Square adjacent to the municipal parking lot at Sun Pharmacy. There will be events and activities for all ages, explained Commissioner Travis Marion, who is working to organize this inaugural event.
Children ages 15 and under are invited to participate in the costume contest. There will also be a costume contest for pets. Animals of all types are welcome to attend, but they must be caged or on a leash. The costume contests begin at 5 p.m.
Those whose creativity comes in the kitchen, are invited to participate in the baking contest. All recipes must contain apples. Local restaurant staff/caterers are being asked to serve as judges.
Another highlight is trunk or treat. Volunteers are asked to decorate their vehicles and will be parked in a nearby lot. Children will then go to the cars and collected treats provided by car owners. "Trunk or treat is an event where people decorate their cars and hand out candy to the trick or treaters. The town will supply bags, or bring your own," said Marion.
There will also be games including cornhole and a three-legged race.
All these events are free and open to the public. "I am looking to have a great night in town square," said Marion. He also said the Spooktacular will be held weather permitting. Check the town facebook and web page for updates.
"This should be a great community event. People enjoyed the movie nights, but we had issues with weather. This will be a nice night for everyone to come out and enjoy with their families.
In order to gauge interest in the various events, sign up sheets are available at town hall. Those who will participate in the apple baking contest, the children's costume contest, or the pet costume contest, are asked to register at town hall. There is no fee. Registration will also be held on site during the event.
Anyone who wants to volunteer or donate to the Spooktacular event is asked to call Commissioner Travis Marion at 443-945-6567, town hall at 410-658-5353 or email email@example.com Help is especially needed with clean up and set up.
"We are hoping to make this annual and even expand it," added Marion.
