In mid-September, Rising Sun officials established an Economic Development and Community Advisory Revitalization Committee in an effort to rejuvenate the downtown.
In mid-December, those same officials took town money and hosted a party in York County, Pennsylvania. The Town Appreciation Dinner was held at Peach Bottom Inn in Delta, Pa. on December 12.
Those invited to the party included all the town staff administration, public works, and police department. In addition the volunteer members of the planning and zoning commission, arts council, ethics board, board of appeals, and economic development commission were invited.
Mayor Marion said that "as a courtesy" and because he was invited to parties in other towns, the mayors of the rest of Cecil's incorporated towns were invited. "They invited us to theirs so I invited them to ours," said Marion. The members of the county council, as well as Delegate David Rudolph and Delegate-Elect Kevin Hornberger were also invited and permitted to bring guests. Marion said that only Councilman Dan Schneckenburger and Delegate-elect Hornberger attended. County Executive Tari Moore was also invited and did not attend.
The mayor was sidelined with strep throat and missed the party.
He also said he does not know the total cost of the event, which was paid for by the Town.
He said in his estimation, 60-70 people turned out for the party. He said that next year, the planning will begin earlier. He is also considering having it during the summer months instead of near Christmas.
