Rising Sun's fifth annual Fall Spooktacular will include an additional road closure.
In order to make way for a zip line, a portion of Pearl Street will be closed on Saturday, October 14.
Spooktacular, the massive pre-Halloween family event chaired by Mayor Travis Marion will be held from 1-5 p.m. in the Center Square area of downtown. There will be activities for the whole family. The municipal parking lot next to Sun Pharmacy and Center Square will also be closed to traffic. "Spooktacular is a business-sponsored event. It would not be possible without the businesses," said Marion. "When we started five years ago, we had 400 people. Now we're up to 3,000."
Gifford's Farm is supplying as many as 1,000 pumpkins. Marion said it's important to support local businesses.
"Gifford's does a lot for the community. It's great to reach out to the community," he said.
There will also be about 20 vendors, crafters, and artists selling their wares. They will include direct sales vendors. For a 10 by 10 space, vendors pay $25. To register as a vendor call McKenzie at 410-658-5353. Marion said this helps to offset the cost of Spooktacular.
"This is a free fun event for families. It's a way to give back to residents and supporters of Rising Sun," added Marion. He also said that preparations for this event are now year round because it has grown so much. "We didn't expect it to be this big. Our police and public works play a critical role."
