For a dozen years, Cecil's Senior Services and Cecil College have partnered to provide a unique learning environment for those ages 55 and up.
Healthy Lifestyle Expo 2014 is set for August 7 from 8:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Elkton High School. The $8 per person registration fee includes the vendor hall, workshops, lunch, door prizes, a 55 and up volunteer fair, and free health screenings.
Another new topic this year will be Connie Muller-Thym discussing resolving family conflicts. Travel agent Wayne Hill will present a variety of day trips. Other workshop topics include protecting your credit and assets, living wills/advance medical directives, oral health, dance, medicine, living better with arthritis, healthy eating, changes in real estate tax law, reviving the golden rule, Zumba Gold, It's all about Lavender, The Doctor is In, line dancing, historic towns of Cecil County, homeopathy and your health, healing herbs, insurance 101, and Tai Chi.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the vendor hall will be open. The first set of workshops run from 9-9:45 a.m. The second set of workshops begin at 10:15 a.m. The third workshops begin at 1:15 p.m.
The health screenings, including balance, blood pressure, chronic conditions, diabetes assessment, stroke risk assessment, fall risk assessment, vision and hearing screenings are available all day during the expo. The Senior Services volunteer fair is open from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. You do not have to attend the expo to attend that event.
This event attracts more people each year according to Glimmer. She said that 275 people turned out last year.
