Those who work in Perryville's town hall headed for higher ground last week.
Town administrator Denise Breder, assistant town administrator Cathy McCardell, town clerk Jackie Sample, office clerk Michelle Yackanech, and billing clerk Amy Yackanech all relocated to the second floor of the 1920s building due to a sewer blockage on the first floor where they normally work.
"We are hoping this is temporary and we can (move back downstairs) by February 26. We hope everything is restored and we can have the town meeting here. We are playing it day by day," said Breder. "You never know what will happen. This is a trial run. We are not happy about this, but we are using it as a learning exercise. Everybody has been understanding and they are cooperating and dealing with the situation."
"It's disruptive for everybody, I think. But they are doing everything they can to accommodate us. We are hooking everything up. I brought my computer and my phone. I answer the phones and that is our vital thing," said Michelle Yackanech.
Outside town hall, public works crewmen Tom Chapman and Jeff Artrip worked to televise the lines to locate a blockage.
"Our work is continuing. Tuesday will be late (utility) billing and we will see how that goes. We will continue as normal as possible under these conditions," said Breder.
