Master police officer Adam Dominick, Rising Sun's K-9 officer and a 10-year veteran of the force, is still on the town payroll.
Dominick hasn't been on patrol in the town since August 2014.
His assigned K-9 remains in Dominick's care, at Dominick's request, said Police Chief Chip Peterson.
Chief Peterson said that Dominick is the subject of an internal investigation which is ongoing and being conducted by the department.
The chief would not provide any details surrounding the officer's suspension, stating that it is a personnel matter.
"It's personnel. Until we get this resolved, I can't talk about it. I want it to be fair for Adam and I want it to be fair for the town," said Peterson. He also said that Dominick's rights are protected through the Law Enforcement Officer's Bill of Rights.
In January of this year. the Town began advertising to hire another officer. The chief said that hiring plan has been put on hold. "We are not hiring at this time. We have identified someone that we'd like to hire. Hopefully, in the next budget year," Peterson said.
The department is operating with fewer officers than in years past. Dominick is not working. Late in 2014, PFC Paul Wilkinson resigned his post suddenly after working for the town for just over a year.
