Johannah Hilferty is one of the many faces of downtown Elkton.
Hilferty, manager of the town's newest business, The Coffee Place on Main Street, across from Circuit Court, proudly held a “We Are Elkton” sign as she talked about the new business last week.
The focus in the store is local items as well as coffee, espresso, latte, cappuccino, and bagels. Neuchatel chocolates and locally made baked goods are sold in the store. The coffee is made in Maryland and there are items from Turkey Point Winery. The store will soon offer pre-made sandwiches.
Hours at The Coffee Place are Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m.
The shop is closed Sundays. Hours may be fine-tuned to meet customer needs. Hilferty said that supporting locally produced goods is a priority at The Coffee Place.
She also said that the shop has quickly become a gathering/meeting place in the month since opening its doors.
According to staff at the Elkton Chamber/Alliance, the We Are Elkton campaign was started by Mayor Rob Alt. The idea behind it was to promote the people of Elkton and the downtown. People have been asked to use Patti Paulus' handmade calligraphy signs, take their photo, and post it on Social Media for downtown Elkton sites. The We Are Elkton signs are located in downtown businesses.
