Those wanting to make a quick buck, have resorted to stealing from county bridges.
Recently, Butch Snelling, who supervises the sign shop for the county roads department, was out helping perform weed control along local roads.
Across the top of of the concrete bridge on Lums Road, there used to be ornamental railings. The railings are gone and all that's left are bolts which used to hold the decorative handrail in place.
"Now they are gone from both sides of the bridge," said Snelling.
The bridge on Lums Road isn't the only one from which the railing has been removed. Someone also took the decorative handrails from the bridge on Belvidere Road, near Perryville.
Snelling said he believes these bridges were easy targets because they are both isolated and not near a residential area.
