Calvert Elementary School and Rising Sun High School are still on lockdown while police continue to search for a suspect who fled following a traffic stop this morning.
At approximately 5:15 a.m., DFC Bryan Shockey conducted a traffic stop on a 2003 Ford Focus in the area of Route 272 northbound near Wheatley Road. After DFC. Shockey approached the vehicle, the driver sped away.
Since schools opened this morning ,both Calvert Elementary and Rising Sun High have been on "Code Yellow", a precaution when an incident occurs near a school. Sgt. Scott Adams, supervisor of the School Resource Deputy program, was at Calvert Elementary for much of the morning. Sgt. Adams and another deputy worked at the school because visitors were in the building for the annual Grandparents Day. "There have been no issues. It worked out fine," said Sgt. Adams.
